Road Traffic Accident Solicitors Dublin

If you have been involved in a road traffic where another road user was at fault, you may be entitled to claim for compensation.

Those who can claim compensation for a road traffic accident include:

  • Drivers
  • Passengers
  • Pedestrians
  • Cyclists
  • Motorcyclists
  • Passengers on public transport

You may be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering for both the initial injury and for any ongoing disability. Additional compensation may be sought for any disadvantage on the labour market caused by permanent injury. Other financial losses that may be claimed include:

  • compensation for material damage to your vehicle
  • special care aids and equipment
  • adapted transport
  • prescription charges and medical fees
  • cost of care and assistance
  • adapted accommodation
  • costs of assistance for household chores

Under Irish law, all drivers must have third party insurance. This covers damage caused to another party, including the driver’s own passengers. If you are injured by an uninsured driver, you may be covered by a special agreement covered by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland.

The following non-exhaustive list sets out the matters you should attend to if you are involved in a road traffic accident:

  • If anyone is injured, call an ambulance straight away
  • Contact the Gardai and ask them to attend the scene of the accident
  • Obtain the insurance details of any other driver involved in the accident
  • Obtain details of any available witnesses
  • Seek medical attention yourself and retain all details of medical professionals you attend
  • Retain all receipts in respect of medical attendances
  • Retain all prescriptions in respect of medication

If you have been injured in a road traffic accident, report it to the Gardai and seek medical attention. Claims for injury compensation in road traffic accidents require a Garda report of the incident as well as a GP’s medical report.
